Objectives

To provide a self assessment tool through which organisations can assess and continue to develop and improve their services by reference to external standards. At present, standards are available for hospitals (particularly small to medium sized ones), and Day Services.  Work has been undertaken on Learning Disability Services, Primary Care and Mental Health Services for the Elderly, and Community-based ServicesThe Scheme has the potential for development to cover a wider range of services.   The Board is exploring these links to other services.

To support preparation for Health Commission visits.

To assure the Health Commission that there is an on-going process for maintaining quality development.

Through the delivery of the Scheme to offer individual development opportunities for staff, which will benefit both them and their organisations.

To offer those who commission health services an objective means of being assured of the general quality of such services
