Objectives To support continuous quality improvement in therapeutic communities (TC’s) using a systematic quality improvement process that incorporates peer-review, sharing of ideas and joint discussion.
Scope and focus of programme Community of Communities brings together therapeutic communities, both in the UK and internationally.  It includes four networks:
  • Adult Democratic TCs including:
    • Accreditation process for NHS TCs
    • Accreditation process for TCs in prisons
  • Children and Young People TCs
  • Addictions TCs
  • Learning Disability Communities

TCs are specialist services with the central philosophy that service users are active participants in their own and each others’ treatment. Responsibility for the daily running of the community is shared amongst themselves and staff.

Products and services

The project uses an annual and iterative cycle of self- and peer-reviews, based on a set of specially developed service standards.

Participants receive a local review summary and a national report, which allows for benchmarking and attendance at an annual member’s forum.

Members receive a quarterly newsletter including staff and service user input from all our members.

Lead reviewer training and peer-review training is provided.
